The Academy of Ukrainian Press joined the forum on media literacy

27.03.2023

On 24-25 March 2023, the forum "MEDIA LITERACY 5.0: From Challenges to Solutions" was held in Truskavets.

The event is organized by DW Akademie in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute of Media and Communications with the support of the WMZ and the European Union.

Oksana Voloshenyuk joined the event on behalf of the Academy of Ukrainian Press, and Raisa Yevtushenko spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Both experts took part in the panel discussion "Media Literacy in Formal and Non-Formal Education: Challenges and Solutions of the War and Post-War Periods".

They discussed how the war affected the implementation of media literacy in school curricula, how non-formal education should be developed, and what media literacy education should focus on now and in the post-war period.

Oksana Voloshenyuk noted that from the first weeks of the war, the Academy of Ukrainian Press focused its attention on both teachers and students. And since April (2022), a section on Media Literacy in Times of War has been added to the Toolbox for Teachers, which contains exercises on integrating media literacy into all educational areas. More than 40 lessons have already been posted there. Link: https://toolbox.medialiteracy.org.ua/

We also realized that the experience of war is also quite traumatic for the younger generation. That's why we created an adaptive comic book for them, We'll Be Back Soon. It has already been translated into English for Canadian children.

Soon, the Academy of Ukrainian Press, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, plans to present three more manuals, which we have united in the series "Media Education on Fire".
