On August 1-5, 2012, International Charitable Foundation “Academy of Ukrainian Press” supported by Media Program of the International Renaissance Foundation conducted a regular Summer School on media education for secondary school teachers.
School participants included 20 media teachers from 10 oblasts of Ukraine who in 2011/12 academic year started the implementation of media education programs in secondary schools. This even was organized in partnership with the Institute for Innovative Technologies and Content of Education of the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, and Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine. The main Summer School topics included effects and influence of mass media; problems of media’s manipulative influence; overview of analytical research of senior school pupils’ level of media culture; methodology for teaching media education; psychological aspects of media education; problems of media socialization etc. Training also included master classes on media production.
