MEDIA CREATIVITY AND CRITICAL THINKING AT SUMMER SCHOOL OF AUP

In June 27-30, 2017, the 10th Media Education and Media Education Summer School for elementary school teachers was held by AUP with the support of the U-Media Internews Network Program, and  gathered 25 teachers from 8 regions.

Event program was intensive. Media expert, media and business coach, Doctor of Education, professor Tetiana Ivanova conducted a dynamic master class on interactive tools of teaching media education. Media teacher, Valentyna Potapova, showed the practical methods of critical thinking and decoding media texts. Inna Ivanova, vice-principal for curriculum and discipline and a teacher of “Steps to media literacy” course at Pershotravenska Secondary School #2 (Dnipropetrovsk region), co-author of the first curriculum for beginners “I am in media environment” shared with her experience of challenges and success in the first 2 years of teaching. Halyna Dehtiariova, Head of Methodology of Teaching Languages and Literature Department at Kharkiv Academy of Lifelong Education, regional coordinator of media education implementing in educational establishments of Kharkiv region, told about techniques of media literacy integration in modern elementary school curricula.

On the creating animation master-class held by Yuliia Rybina, media-teacher from Kharkiv, participants screened the poem of Lina Kostenko “Colored Mice”. Everyone showed one’s expected and unexpected talents.

We express special gratitude to Iryna Lypka, Principal of Novomoskovsk School #2 and her staff who were our good hosts on that day! At the time of our departure, they were already preparing for the next seminar ‘Critical Thinking Tools’ that proves how active they are.
