FEEL THE RHYTHM OF THE MEDIA WITH PROFESSIONALS!

13.09.2024

The first week of classes for future journalism students at the Department of Social Communications at Mariupil State University began as usual: motivating, interesting and unexpected. Instead of long lectures and lectures, future journalists were able to see and feel all the subtleties of the journalistic profession. They were addressed by well-known practicing journalists, as well as PR and advertising specialists.
The Department was also visited by the Academy of Ukrainian Press (AUP), which is a longtime partner of the University. The meeting with the journalism students was opened by Valeriy Ivanov, President of the AUP.
He presented the AUP's experience in working with journalists during the war, in all areas: material assistance, commemoration of the dead, organization of press tours of Western journalists to the front, etc.
Tetyana Ivanova, Head of the Department of Social Communications at Mariupol State University and media trainer at the AUP, focused on training programs for journalists, namely, various trainings, webinars, roundtables, conferences, etc.
The main message of the speech was that the training is in line with the main trends in the development of journalism and journalism education in particular.

Studying the experience of advanced European countries and analyzing the national realities of war, the AUP focused its educational activities on the following main areas: military journalism, digitalization and multimedia journalism, fact-checking and countering disinformation, quality journalism and conflict-sensitive communication. Let's not forget about artificial intelligence, namely how a journalist can interact with it ethically and not harm his or her image, and most importantly, not lose the trust of their consumers and accurately report what is happening.
In this regard, the journalist Hannah Arendt's statement is very relevant: "The function of journalism is not to entertain or inform, but to awaken the conscience."
We hope that the freshmen, thanks to the "star week," were also able to see their future profession as it is and as it should be in a European country.
