In February, 14-15, 2017, the second workshop ‘New HR resources for new Ukraine’ took place in Odesa. Journalists and editors of regional printed and online media, students and teachers of journalism faculties from Odesa universities, national TV channel correspondents and NGO representatives participated in the workshop.
At the workshop, ‘Kadry’ project director, Dmytro Hamash, paid attention of participants to legal and organizational principles of conducting the recruiting competitions, following the terms and justifying the appointments, introduced practical cases where journalists acted as the candidates and recruiting committee members.
‘Odesa region is specific for the project ‘Kadry’. One should take into account that the special attention has been drawn to this area for the recent several months after the numerous heads of district administrations were dismissed, that was provoked by resignation of Mykheyil Saakhashvilli from the position of Odesa State Administration Chairman, - pointed out Dmytro Hamash. - The ministry of Infrastructure has also taken the decisions on appointments regarding management of public enterprises in the marine industry’.
Participants lively shared their impressions on the procedure of recruitment competitions for vacant appointments, discussed the publications in press and social networks, and expressed their visions of the future appointments in the region.
Andrii Yurychko, media trainer, journalist and lecturer at the Institute of Journalism, T. Shevchenko Kyiv National University, made a special emphasize on peculiarities of journalist’s activity with information sources about participants, recruiting committee members, political lobbyists. The importance of analyzing the candidates regarding honesty and verification of participants’ practical management and competence experience were particularly reviewed as these results are frequently neglected by the recruiting competition committee.
‘Despite of the candidates’ attempts to clean up their past, careful journalistic activity allows society to understand the motives and competence of candidates for key appointments at the important state enterprises or institutions’, - mentioned Andrii Yurychko.
This is the second phase of ‘Kadry’ project where engagement, preparation and creation of a journalistic network dealing with the recruitment competition coverage are supposed. The first training took place in Lviv at the end of January, 2017. The overall number of participants reached more than 40 persons.
The event was organized by the Academy of Ukrainian Press and ‘Kadry’ portal with the support of Media Development Foundation, the US Embassy of Ukraine.
