‘Internews Ukraine’ is launching the project TrollessUA aimed at identifying and blocking suspicious accounts in Ukraine’s Facebook segment. Those are active commentators using hate speech and taking offence, manipulating with the notion “patriot”, and at the same time spreading massively fakes. A struggle against Facebook-trolles will lead the team of CyberElves where every volunteer can take part: https://trollessua.org/.
Cyber-elves are going to create a database of accounts with the mentioned above typical behavior. After that, Internews-Ukraine will complain to Facebook administration with a strong request to double check and block the profiles. To decrease the number of manipulation victims in web, Internews Ukraine is developing a special app for Google Chrome that after the launch will identify the ‘troll’ accounts included in the database. Thus, the users will be warned on danger of manipulations.
All the registered CyberElves will participate in a special mentorship course before carrying out searches on Facebook. This will help the volunteers find out where they should look for and identify the so-called FB-trolls. To simplify the process of tuning the app for Google Chrome identifying the trolls in social media, an instructional video will be available to Ukrainian users on how efficiently to use this toolkit.
The initiative is launched on the basis of Moldovan project Trolless. The initiative is being realized by NGO ‘Internews-Ukraine’ due to the support of the American people, which was provided through the USAID “Media Program in Ukraine” project implemented by the international organization Internews.
