03.02.2025

🇺🇦🇪🇪"Media literacy is the basis not only for information but also for psychological resilience", says our guest, Maria Murumaa-Mengel, Associate Professor of Media Studies at the Institute of Social Studies, University of Tartu.

💥The meeting was held as part of the Academy of Ukrainian Press online bridge project called «Learning from Others and Not Shying Away from Our Own».

The topic of the conversation was «Increasing media and information literacy of the population: The case of Estonia». The event was moderated by Tetyana Ivanova, media expert at the Academy of Ukrainian Press, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Social Communications at Mariupol State University.

🗣👩‍🦰У In a live dialogue format, the experts discussed that Ukraine and Estonia do not have the luxury of being carefree in the world of information challenges, because we have one sad thing in common - our “neighbour”.

👩‍💻🎬We also talked about the fact that being media literate does not mean only knowing the mechanisms of media functioning. A media literate person is a person who understands how information works, how it affects a person, what it does to their brain and emotions.

🌎📲📺Yes, - says Maria, - we do not live WITH the media world... We live IN the media world. This means that each of us has to work on our own media culture and media awareness.
