Oleksandr Mashlai was a volunteer who took part in the offensive near Robotyne. From October 2023, he held the line at the Avdiivka Chemical Coke Plant without rotation, later defending Berdichi. He fell near the village of Zhelanne in the Donetsk region.
Known by his callsign “Goth,” Oleksandr served as a junior sergeant in the 25th Separate Assault Battalion of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Magura." He specialized in communications and was the designer of his battalion's insignia.
Born in the village of Hoshcha in Rivne region, Oleksandr began his journey in public life with the National Scout Organization of Ukraine and later worked as an assistant consultant in the Volyn Regional State Administration.
An ecologist by education, Oleksandr was a publicist, journalist, and revolutionary by calling. He once served as editor-in-chief of the publication „Pravyi Postup”, co-founded the NGO „National Alliance”, and was a member of the political party „Za Ukrainu” and the civic party „Pora”. His friends remember him as a true nationalist and an active participant in every patriotic initiative.
Oleksandr was deeply involved in both the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity. In 2005, alongside his colleagues from the National Alliance, he joined the opposition protest "Chernobyl Path" in Minsk. He spent ten days in a Belarusian prison, where he undertook and endured a hunger strike before his eventual deportation.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
