On January 15, 2025, the AUP YouTube channel hosted the presentation of the first educational and practical training manual this year «Media Literacy and STEM Education: Challenges and Opportunities», authored by Yulia Zorya, head of the STEM Education Training Center of the Cherkasy Institute of Postgraduate Education of Teachers.
During the presentation, the author emphasized the importance of combining media literacy with science and mathematics. “Digital technologies are already a part of our reality, and they require new educational approaches”, said Yulia Zorya. She also emphasized that critical thinking is the basis of both media literacy and STEM education.

According to the moderator of the event, Maksym Zaporozhchenko, manager of media education programs at AUP, head of the Center for Digital Education and Media Culture at the Mykolaiv Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education, the manual can be considered the first in the world to analyze in detail the interaction of STEM education and media literacy, emphasizing: “This publication shows that the integration of media literacy is possible in any subject, even in STEM, where it seems to be the least obvious”.
“Critical thinking is the basis for successful adaptation in a world that is changing under the influence of information flows and technology. We believe that this manual will become a tool that will help educate a new generation of competent and conscious citizens”, summarized Yulia Zorya.
The Academy of Ukrainian Press invites educators to use the manual in their work. The publication is available for free download on the AUP Media Education and Media Literacy Portal.
And anyone who conducts classes based on the materials of this or other AUP manuals has the opportunity to receive a certificate from the AUP and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine by filling out a feedback form.
