On November 29, 2024, the Academy of Ukrainian Press presented the educational-methodological album "Media Literacy Begins at Home" on its YouTube channel. This practical tool is designed for parents, educators, and teachers aiming to prepare children and students for the informational challenges of the modern world.
"Parents are full participants in the educational process. Any algorithms, models, or practices aimed at fostering critical thinking that we apply in educational institutions will show the best results if supported at home," said the album’s author, Yulia Zorya, head of the STEM Education Training Center at the Cherkasy Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education for Teachers.
The album features exercises adapted for preschool and primary school children, making the learning process both beneficial and engaging for the entire family.
Maksym Zaporozhchenko, Media Education Program Manager at the Academy of Ukrainian Press and head of the Digital Education and Media Culture Center at Mykolaiv Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, noted:
"Today, popular bloggers are the role models and authorities for children. To become a child’s friend in the digital age, we need to occasionally meet them on their wavelength, even if it means stepping away from traditional parental roles. Remember how delighted your daughter or son was when you joked freely or played a board or computer game as equals with the same rules for everyone."
The "Media Literacy Begins at Home" guide consists of two main sections:
