Documenting the truth on the front line - a frontline mission of the AUP and NUJU

03.10.2024

Journalists from the Academy of Ukrainian Press together with representatives of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine visited the frontline areas where the war is mercilessly destroying the lives of civilians. During the visit, they visited the destroyed editorial office of the Vorskla newspaper, which became one of the many victims of Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure.
"Journalists are important, and the printed press is invaluable in the combat zone," emphasized Valeriy IVANOV, President of the AUP. These words are especially relevant as Ukrainian journalists continue to work on the front line, documenting the horrific consequences of war and destruction, and Russian troops continue to shell civilians.

We remind you that Russia systematically destroys civilian infrastructure that has nothing to do with military objectives. Many of the buildings that are being shelled have never been used by the military and were (and still are) exclusively civilian objects. The journalists recorded on video the results of shelling in frontline villages, where houses, hospitals, and other critical civilian infrastructure were destroyed.

During their visits to the frontline villages, the AUP representatives had the opportunity to talk to local activists. They not only listened to their stories, but also documented everything they saw in order to convey the truth to the international community. This is important, because the work of journalists is becoming a powerful tool in the fight against Russian propaganda, which continues to distort real events in Ukraine.

Such trips allow us to collect not only textual evidence, but also visual evidence, which becomes a powerful argument in the information war.
The article about the business trip was published in the next issue of the Vorskla newspaper.
