We think that children learn from the successes and mistakes of comic book characters, gain experience that will help them find the right decisions in real life, as well as gain knowledge in various school disciplines.
The webinar "Creative possibilities of media literacy: the educational and entertaining potential of children's comics" (organized by the Academy of Ukrainian Press together with the Kharkiv Academy of Continuing Education), which was to be held online on December 21, was held remotely due to the lack of power supply.
113 listeners received materials, presentations, and videos of the speakers' speeches, namely: "Educational Potential of Comics" by Halyna DEGTYARIOVA, Head of the Department of Methods of Teaching Languages and Literature of the Kharkiv Academy of Continuing Education, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, and "Reading Media Education Comics Together" by Oksana Voloshenyuk, Manager of Media Education Programs of the AUP.
Ms. Halyna shared the scheme of comic book analysis:
- Look carefully at the comic strip. Pay attention to the content, shapes, colors, textures, positions of people and/or objects, etc. What is it about?
- What did the author want to emphasize?
- Is this comic book difficult to understand?
- Pay attention to what figures, and objects are in the foreground and what is in the background.
- Analyze which figures and objects are depicted large and small and why.
- What techniques (technical, content) are used? Why them? (What image? How is it processed? What is removed? What is enhanced?)
